Teamwork Orientation

Cheryl’s Reflection:

I like being a part of a team and my performance on this assessment indicates that.  Teams can be both rewarding and challenging.  In this class the teamwork has been rewarding.  My team works well together, we seem to all have taken different leads and worked very well together.  Both Faranda and Brian have different strengths than I do and I have been able to rely on them for this!   We also have had great group meetings and engaging conversations.

Below is a reminder of how team work should turn out!

Productive Meetings

In Chapter 9, Scandura gives us a suggested list for holding successful meetings.   This list appears is valid, it is also very detailed and I have included it below. Some of these things, at my place of employment, we take for granted because we have dedicated conference rooms.   In having dedicated conference rooms, we do not have to worry about the environment tasks listed, however we seem to always suffer with some type of audio/ visual challenge!

I have found having goals and an agenda for a meeting is very helpful.  Not only does this assist with staying on task, it attends to attach people who are very busy, when they know your area of focus.  Wrapping up the meeting is also helpful and ensures people apply the agreements or attend to the actions agreed in the meeting. 

            I have also attended many meetings, which appear to drag on without any real focus or conclude with any real decisions.  Sometimes these meetings are good for brainstorming or sharing ideas, however we are all very busy so it is preferred meetings are structured with objectives.
