What do People Want from their Jobs?

We discussed our individual results and compared our responses and come a group consensus as to how we would rate these characteristics as a team. We all agreed job security was commonly what we agreed as most important quality we look for in a job. High wages were number 2 and 3 for Brian and Faranda respectively; Cheryl had high wages at number 8 on her list. With further discussion, it was understood, Cheryl, is at a point in her life and career where she feels well compensated in her profession; salary is not as important to her as it once was. However, we agreed to rank high wages as the second most important characteristic we seek from our employers. The team ranked full appreciation for our efforts as their third employment priority, we all felt being appreciated for our individual contributions to our employers was significant.
Number 4 on our list was interesting work, Faranda stated she had never had a boring job, because she does not do well with tedious or mundane tasks. In her case, she will not stay with an employer if the works is not interesting or challenging. Brian and Cheryl stated having an interest in their job is very important to them, as well. They each have had jobs where the work was not interesting to them and from this experience know their dedication waivers with lack of interest. Our fifth and sixth response go blend well together; they are feel like part of a team/ and good working conditions. Humans are very social creatures and seek positive interaction, otherwise this group feels lonely and isolated, which can lead to their lack of productivity.
Promotion within the company we ranked at number 7, but corporate promotion is not utmost importance to any member of this group. Each member is ambitious and confident in their abilities and feel promotion is not a concern but a progressive course of action, in time, based upon their hard work. Currently, group members are content in their current positions and do not feel promotion is a value at this time. The group agreed to being at peace in their current employment environment and are currently focusing on self-growth before looking for promotion opportunities.
Numbers 8, 9, and 10: personal loyalty of the supervisor, tactful discipline, and help with personal problem, respectively were not high priorities to any of member of the group. We all acknowledge the need as leaders to provide personal help to our coworkers and subordinates, but it was not something we sought for ourselves as a factor of employment.
